FAQ

What is vertical farming?

Our vertical farming method entails producing food within vertically-orientated towers in an indoor controlled environment. The water is dispensed from above and flows down each tower to a drainage pipe, which empties into a reservoir. Additionally, we use supplemental lighting comprised of specific LED diodes to optimize growth.

Is your food non-gmo? What does Open-pollinated + heirloom mean?

Yes, our produce is non-GMO because we only use non-GMO seeds. Heirloom describes seeds that have been passed down for multiple generations, spanning at least 50 years. These seeds are harvested and then planted yearly. All heirloom foods are open-pollinated, therefore, the seeds are pollinated by natural means, such as insects, birds, and wind.

How are you sustainable?

Because we are not a traditional farm, certain definitions of sustainable agriculture do not apply to us. For instance, we do not employ crop rotation because our farming methods do not require soil. However, we use 97% less water compared to traditional farming and our 50-mile delivery radius enures lower fossil fuel emissions compared to other food distributors.

do use fertilizer?

Yes. We tailor our fertilizer to the plants’s specific needs in order to optimize growth and health.

is your food organic?

We are not USDA certified organic. However, we have higher standards for our farming methods. No synthetic or organic pesticides or insecticides, including those allowed by the USDA, are used on our plants. Additionally, we use non-GMO seeds.
